The Battle for Mars Continues in Blood Red Steel

Third installment of the series packs a powerful punch

Author Damien Larkin returns us to Mars in this follow up to Big Red and Blood Red Sand. The many complex threads of this extravagantly layered war are brought together through a colorful cast of characters, jumping between POVs in a way that not only neatly connects all the action but keeps you on edge wondering where their allegiances will ultimately fall and who will make it through. The stakes keep stacking up as the many paths of this wildly original tale come together.

A military man himself, Larkin uses his knowledge to bring a science fiction war to life. He takes numerous storylines and threads them together to create a story which never lets up. There is not just action a-plenty. There is non-stop, relentless action. It is breath-taking in its remorselessness. Readers will find themselves on the edge of their seat, as much a part of the close-quarters skirmishes as the large scale battles.

Blood alone decides the fate of Mars…

For two years, the Mars Expeditionary Force has held the line against the last remnants of the Third Reich. McCabe, Jenkins, and the Second Battalion long for home. Reinforcements have arrived, but the veterans of the MEF have one final mission. Defend Forward Base Zulu at all costs.

While Generalfeldmarschall Brandt plans a decisive showdown at Forward Base Zulu, Reichsführer Wagner celebrates the activation of the first generation of the Hollow Programme. Surrounded and cut off, McCabe and Jenkins once again find themselves in league with the MAJESTIC-12 operatives known as the Black Visors. Now the future hinges on the sacrifices of a few determined soldiers.

“Immediately after set-up, the author creatively builds the war time action scenes with non-stop action and detail until the culmination that will leave a lump in your throat and a pain in your chest. The story telling is multi-layered with different characters and timelines that are interwoven to perfection.” – Michele Packard, author

“The stakes are so high in this one. Larkin is a master storyteller and every plot twist is a punch to the gut.” – Jessa Forest, author

Damien Larkin is an Irish science fiction author and co-founder of the British and Irish Writing Community. His debut novel Big Red was longlisted for the BSFA award for Best Novel. He currently lives in Dublin, Ireland. www.damienlarkinbooks.com

Reveling in that First Love

New anthology explores the innocence of early attraction

First Love: The Art of Making Doughnuts comes from the Insecure Writer’s Support Group’s seventh annual anthology contest. A Writer’s Digest Top 101 Site for Writers, the IWSG’s theme for entries centered on first love with a strong emphasis on “sweet romance.” The group’s 20,000+ members responded, and once the administrators selected the top stories, the official judges, a panel of authors, agents, and publishing industry experts, went to work.

Focusing on the innocence of first love, the book takes readers back to that special moment when Cupid’s arrow found its mark. From contemporary to historical, the stories follow young love and lost love found again. Linda Budzinski won the top spot in the contest. Her story, The Art of Making Doughnuts, received the subtitle and cover art honor. For nine of the ten authors, this is their first Insecure Writer’s Support Group anthology.

The sweetness of first love…

Could a fiercely independent cop’s heart be stolen by the guy who makes her favorite doughnuts? Will a maid who used deceit to snare a mail-order husband get a dose of her own medicine? Can her handsome neighbor rescue a modern-day “princess” from a tenacious ex-boyfriend? Can two strangers in a rideshare be honest enough to fall in love for real? Can you remember your first love? How about your second? Third? Fourth?

Featuring the talents of Linda Budzinski, Melissa Maygrove, Michael Di Gesu, Sylvia Ney, Katie Klein, Kim Elliott, Templeton Moss, S.E. White, Denise Covey, and Sammi Spizziri. Hand-picked by a panel of agents and authors, these ten tales will touch your heart and rekindle lost feelings. Prepare to return to that first love…

Best-selling Cassa Trilogy Receives New Addition

After a seven year hiatus, award-winning author releases next novel

Author Alex J. Cavanaugh never intended years to elapse before returning to the Cassa universe. But the best-selling trilogy is now a quadrilogy and CassaDark expands on the first three titles while maintaining its standalone status.

The book tackles social issues such as prejudice, injustice, and government cover-up. A bit of mystery weaves through the story—what is truth and what is a lie? Cavanaugh wraps it all in an adventure across the galaxy, stretching the protagonist’s abilities to their limit as he confronts his fears.

Readers will identify with Bassan’s struggles. Fans of the series will recognize him as the son of the original trilogy’s protagonist, but new readers will not be lost reading this book alone. Those who enjoy Heinlein’s works and space adventures in the style of Star Wars and Stargate will dig into this exciting space opera.

 His world is unraveling…
Bassan’s father is stepping down from command. His best friend almost dies when Bassan freezes. Now, he’s being sent across the galaxy to speak at an important conference. Despite saving the eleven races years ago, he’s paralyzed by fear and doubt. Could things get any worse?
Once there, new acquaintance Zendar convinces Bassan to visit his planet for a humanitarian mission. Bassan’s special connection to ancient technology is the key to saving Zendar’s people. One problem though—it’s a prisoner planet.
On Ugar, he discovers things aren’t so straightforward. As each secret reveals itself, the situation grows more desperate. If he can’t find the right answers, he might die along with Zendar’s people. Can Bassan summon the courage to be a hero again?

“Cavanaugh returns to the world of his Cassa Series…for a fourth inventive space opera.” – Publisher’s Weekly

Praise for his other Cassa books:
“…calls to mind the youthful focus of Robert Heinlein’s early military sf, as well as the excitement of space opera epitomized by the many Star Wars novels. Fast-paced military action and a youthful protagonist make this a good choice for both young adult and adult fans of space wars.” - Library Journal

The human themes run deep in Blood Red Sand

Science-fiction book displays the gritty side of war

The sequel/prequel to Big Red deals with difficult themes: violence, persecution, xenophobia, antisemitism, and fascism. Set on Mars in the distant past, it provides a fresh perspective on these issues. Multiple groups are clashing together for control of the red planet, and Larkin weaves the various strands of the inevitable conflict between these groups with expert precision.

On a deeper level, the book examines themes dealing with the futility and madness of war and what it means to be human. Are human only from Earth? Can they be recreated? Are the Martian natives human? In the middle of a bloody conflict, is anyone truly human?

Taking place before Big Red—and yet still a sequel—the plot gives a nod to the likes of Saving Private Ryan. Hints of Fury, Stalingrad, and Downfall are included in the storyline, and it’s ideal for fans of Iron Sky. Those ready to immerse themselves in the continuation of WWII on Mars will not be disappointed.

Mars will run red with Nazi blood…
After World War Two, Sergeant McCabe knew the British army could send him anywhere. He never imagined facing down another Nazi threat on Mars.

Surprising Elements and Twists in Big Red

Science-fiction book turns the race to Mars on its head

Big Red poses some unique questions. What if Terrans secretly settled Mars years ago? What if we could reach the red planet in the blink of an eye? And what if humans weren’t the only colonists? Author Damien Larkin blends several surprising components in this science-fiction military-thriller. Readers will relish every surreal development, uncertain if the narrator is reliable or not. At its heart though reside many glimpses into humanity’s soul and our current race to reach Mars.

We have always been here...

Traumatized by the effects of Compression travel, soldier Darren Loughlin holds the key to the fate of Earth’s Martian colonies. With his Battalion decimated, his fractured memory holds the only clues to the colony-wide communications blackout.

With time running out, Darren pieces together his year-long tour of duty with the Mars Occupation Force. Stationed in the Nazi-founded New Berlin colony, ruled by the brutal MARSCORP, he recounts his part in the vicious, genocidal war against the hostile alien natives and all who question Terran supremacy.

But as his memories return, Darren suspects he is at the centre of a plot spanning forty years. He has one last mission to carry out. And his alien enemies may be more human than he is…

“There is drama and heartache here, insights in the light and darkness of humanity’s soul. This book makes you think.” – Phil Parker, author

“A mesmerizing mix of genres: A dash of Starship Troopers mixed teasingly with Memento, spiced with a haunting blend of Black Mirror.” - Roland Yeomans, author

“An action packed Military Science Fiction novel that kept me on the edge of my seat.” - Jamie Kramer, Books and Ladders

“This is a military sci-fi that reminded me a lot of Heinlein’s Starship Troopers.” – Lynda R. Young, author

When she meets Madame Destinée, the teacher of a top dance school who offers her classes for free, Lindsey can't believe her luck. In exchange, she must perform in the school’s exclusive midnight shows, ones sure to make her a star. But something’s not right...

One by one, the other dancers disappear. Each time they do, a music box with a figurine just like the missing ballerina joins Madame Destinée’s growing collection. If Lindsey doesn’t discover the truth about the dance school, she might end up a tiny figurine herself.

History Comes Alive in Medieval Fantasy Middle Grade Book

May 15, 2018 - Some Very Messy Medieval Magic by C. Lee McKenzie casts a spell on readers as young wizard Pete sets off on a dangerous adventure. But this isn’t your garden variety fantasy story. Set in England during the 1100s, the story includes Richard the Lionhearted, Druids, and the duties of a medieval page. History books can be a tad dull, especially for children. To bring her story to life and give young readers aspects of medieval times, Ms. McKenzie researched some interesting facts about the 1100s:

·         Richard was a hunter, a singer, and a charismatic young man with a treacherous political streak. The author chose to highlight his journey to conspire with his brothers against their father the king.

·         A knight’s armor was expensive and given to rust in the drizzly climate of England, so there was a lot of maintenance. The use of salt to scrub away the rust was mentioned in several sources the author researched, along with using rendered fat to inhibit rust development.

·         Druids were the keepers of knowledge, not the evil practitioners of dark magic. Samhain (known to us as Halloween) was terrifying for those who believed the dead walked among them on that night.

These touches add depth and realism to the story. Readers are treated to the customs of the time, learning about history while they eagerly turn pages to find out what trouble Pete gets into next.

“A gripping adventure back in time, with action around every corner.” - Stephanie Robinson, author of The Secret Files of Fairday Morrow

“A great addition to middle school classrooms and libraries, as well as your own private library.” - Beverly Stowe McClure, award-winning author of stories for children and teens.

“This third book in the Adventures of Pete and Weasel series was as much fun as the first.” - Kai Strand, author

“A rich cast of characters who bring the story to life – both in modern and historical times. I highly recommend librarians and teachers get this series on their shelves.” - Hall Ways Reviews

Pete’s stuck in medieval England!

Pete and his friend Weasel thought they’d closed the Time Lock. But a young page from medieval times, Peter of Bramwell, goes missing. His absence during a critical moment will forever alter history unless he’s found.

There’s only one solution - fledgling wizard Pete must take the page’s place. Accompanied by Weasel and Fanon, Pete’s alligator familiar, they travel to 1173 England.

But what if the page remains lost - will Pete know what to do when the critical moment arrives? Toss in a grumpy Fanon, the duke’s curious niece, a talking horse, and the Circle of Stones and Pete realizes he’s in over his young wizard head yet again...

C. Lee McKenzie has a background in Linguistics and Inter-Cultural Communication, but these days her greatest passion is writing for young readers. When she’s not writing she’s hiking or traveling or practicing yoga or asking a lot questions about things she still doesn’t understand.

The division between freedom fighters and a totalitarian regime sets the stage for a thrilling battle for power and truth. Would we fight for liberty and free will? Could one man on the wrong side tip the balance of power?

“In this day and age, we once again need reminders that each generation must fight for its own freedoms or it will lose them.” - Gordon A. Long, author

After a civil war, the North American Commonwealth now dominates the eastern half of the former United States. Controlled by a totalitarian regime called the Directorate, the NAC demands compliance, awareness, and unity. A Directorate member and teacher, Sam enjoys the benefits while skirting the forbidden.

Then Sam encounters Katie Spencer. She sneaks him a short wave radio and he hears the Western Alliance broadcasts. Katie also reveals a video she captured of NAC death camps. Sam realizes he’s involved in a nightmare that could shake every foundation.

With the video broadcast date approaching and several students desperate to escape to the Western Alliance, Sam is forced to decide. Remain loyal to the Directorate? Or abandon all he’s ever known to fight for freedom?

The story seamlessly transitions back and forth between ten-year-old Davy and an adult David sharing the summer of 1969 with his own son. Suited for middle graders and adults alike, this relatable coming-of-age tale will capture reader’s hearts and send them on a quest to create their own special corner.

Everyone needs their own special corner...

It’s 1969 and ten-year-old Davy is in a predicament. With two weeks remaining of the summer holidays, he’s expelled from the public pool for sneaking into the deep end and almost drowning. How will he break the news to his hard-working single mother? She’s at the diner all day, Davy has no friends, and he’s too young to stay by himself.

The answer lies in his rescuer, mysterious thirteen-year-old Ellis Wynn. Visiting her Grammy for the summer, Ellis offers to babysit Davy. She teaches him about “corners”–forgotten or neglected areas fixed up special. Together, the kids tackle several “corners” and Davy learns what it means to bring joy to others.

Davy begins to wonder, though. Why does Ellis want to be his friend? Why doesn’t she ever smile? And is Davy just one of Ellis’ “corners?”

Corrina Austin grew up in the 1960’s. She became a mother of four and an elementary school teacher, but always found time between work and family for writing. From childhood to the present, if she wasn’t reading a book, she was writing one. While honing her craft as a writer, Corrina strives to infuse the ordinary with beauty, whimsy, and connection. Book Reveals Cats as God’s Healers

March 14, 2018 - Maria Santomasso-Hyde’s debut book, He Gave Me Barn Cats, tackles some tough topics, including grief and anger toward God. Based on true events, the author recounts struggles with multiple losses and the animals God sent to help her find peace. Animal lovers will be touched by the barn cats’ life lessons while those spiraling down in grief will find comfort and resolution. This captivating tale reveals how God reaches for us in our darkest moments, even when we reject Him, and brings us peace.

Inspired by true events...

Losses send a woman’s soul into its darkest winter...

Maria has cared for her very ill mother for many years. Her burdens are heavy, causing a sadness bordering on darkness.  When she discovers her historic barn is now home to a mother cat and kittens, she feels lighter than she has in years. As the kittens grow, they teach her as only animals can do.

Then tragedy strikes. As Maria loses her family, the darkness envelopes her like the heavy fog that blankets her Blue Ridge Mountain home each morning. She creates a scorecard:  God: 9,  Maria: 0.  Her questions turn into anger at God.  She searches to find answers as to why her loving God would take away so much in such a short time.

How will she learn to trust again? Can the kittens in her barn help her heal?

“...accessible, compelling and deeply infused with the heartbreaking and heart-lifting realities of life.” - Kurt Rheinheimer, Editor in Chief, Blue Ridge County magazine.

The Remnant Asks - Are you a Theological Threat?

February 7, 2017 - William Michael Davidson’s book poses the question - what if religious beliefs were eradicated? Set in the not too distant future, The Remnant proposes that a single gene is responsible for spiritual beliefs and its destruction eliminates the threat of religious wars and terrorism. What would a world be like without faith? And what would happen if those beliefs began to reemerge? Tapping into the fears of today’s religious and political unrest and acts of violence, Davidson’s story of a world without God is timely and thought-provoking.

One nation, without God...

Colton Pierce apprehends Abberants—those who display symptoms of faith—and quarantines them on a remote island to ensure public safety.  Years prior, the government released a genetically-engineered super flu that destroyed the genes believed to be the biological source of spiritual experience in an effort to rid the world of terrorism. As an extractor with the Center for Theological Control, Colton is dedicated to the cause.

But Colton's steadfast commitment is challenged when he learns his own son has been targeted for extraction. An underground militia, the Remnant, agrees to help Colton save his son in exchange for his assistance with their plan to free the Aberrants on the island.

Colton is faced with the most important decision of his life. Remain faithful to the CTC? Or give up everything to save his son?

An intriguing take on faith, religion, and conflict in a world attempting to abolish all three. The far-fetched becomes imaginable in this near-future cautionary tale. Left Behind meets Philip K. Dick. -- Milo James Fowler, author of Captain Bartholomew Quasar and the Space-Time Displacement Conundrum

William Michael Davidson lives in Long Beach, California with his wife and two daughters. A believer that "good living produces good writing," Davidson writes early in the morning so he can get outside, exercise, spend time with people, and experience as much as possible. A writer of speculative fiction, he enjoys stories that deal with humanity's inherent need for redemption.

Mâtowak: Woman Who Cries Follow-up to Ippy Award Winning Book

November 2016 - Author Joylene Nowell Butler dives back into the world set up in her IPPY Award Silver Medal title, Broken But Not Dead. Mâtowak: Woman Who Cries returns to the Warner family in a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. Set in Canada, it follows Corporal Killian, and aboriginal man, as he attempts to unravel a murder mystery. With her finger on the pulse of the nation, Butler reveals the rift between the natives and immigrants of Canada. The author also gives homage to the Highway of Tears, murders that occurred on a stretch of Hwy 16 in British Columbia from 1969 to 2011.

A murder enveloped in pain and mystery...

When Canada's retired Minister of National Defense, Leland Warner, is murdered in his home, the case is handed to Corporal Danny Killian, an aboriginal man tortured by his wife's unsolved murder.

The suspect, 60-year-old Sally Warner, still grieves for the loss of her two sons, dead in a suicide/murder eighteen months earlier. Confused and damaged, she sees in Corporal Killian a friend sympathetic to her grief and suffering and wants more than anything to trust him.

Danny finds himself with a difficult choice—indict his prime suspect, the dead minister's horribly abused wife or find a way to protect her and risk demotion. Or worse, transfer away from the scene of his wife’s murder and the guilt that haunts him...

Lightning Strikes Again in L.X. Cain’s Bloodwalker

October 2016 - Author L.X. Cain is back with a European paranormal story dripping with atmosphere and suspense. The author of Soul Cutter and other books, Cain delves into the folklore of Hungary and Romania with a modern-day setting. Bloodwalker depicts the fictional cultures of the Skomori and Zorka, painting a vivid picture of both clans. A mystery tinged with horror unfolds in this fresh and original tale.

Lightning flashes. Another child disappears...

Zorka Circus’s big top roars with laughter and cheers, but when it moves on, children vanish.

Circus Security Chief Rurik suspects a killer hides among the performers, but they close ranks—they’ve always viewed lightning-scarred Rurik as the monster. He must find the culprit before anyone else disappears and his home is destroyed by the murders.

Into Zorka Circus comes the Skomori clan, despised as grave digging ghouls. A one-day truce allows bloodwalker Sylvie to marry. Instead, she finds a body. Alerting others will defy her clan’s strict code, break the truce, and leave her an outcast.

When more bodies turn up, the killer's trail becomes impossible to ignore. Rurik and Sylvie must follow the clues—even if they lead to something unimaginable…

Writing a top-notch book is not new to author Beverly Stowe McClure. The author of several children’s and young adult books, she’s won numerous awards, including the Children’s Literary Classics.

No Love in the Garden of Eden... Eden Rose has learned to deal with her mother’s criticism but not the arguments between her parents. She hopes her mother will love her one day, even though Eden’s not sure what the word love means. She finds refuge in an old abandoned house, along with three other teens with problems–Murphy, Toby, and Josh. Thanks to the boys, she begins to understand the meaning of love. But will it be enough to save her broken home life?

From the author: "Under a Purple Moon is the story of four teens from broken families. Many teens today face the same, or similar, situations my characters face. I hope the story gives them hope for the future."

“Be forewarned, you will not be able to put this book down! Beverly Stowe McClure gets into the mental psyche of teenagers with deep clarity and conviction the reader will feel the emotions of each character to their core.” - Donna McDine, multi-award winning author of stories for children

Most of the time, you’ll find Beverly Stowe McClure at her computer, typing stories little voices whisper in her ears. When she’s not writing, she’s snapping pictures of wildlife, flowers and clouds. She’s sometimes known as the “Bug Lady.” She’s not telling why.

Unleashing Dragon of the Stars by Alex J. Cavanaugh

On April 7, 2015, Dragon of the Stars will be unleashed into the world. The fourth science fiction-space opera book from author Alex J. Cavanaugh is set to follow the best-selling path of his Cassa trilogy. The book also solves the mystery–What Are the Kargrandes?

For the past thirteen weeks, a new clue has appeared every Monday at the website www.whatarethekargrandes.com These clues have been shared across Twitter through #whatarethegrandes, Facebook, and the blogging community. Their connection to the story will finally be revealed with the release of the book.

Cavanaugh’s first three books, CassaStar, CassaFire, and CassaStorm, were all Amazon best-sellers in the US and UK. Dragon of the Stars is a stand-alone novel, and the Kargrandes are a key part of the story.

The ship of legends...  The future is set for Lt. Commander Aden Pendar, poised to secure his own command and marriage to the queen’s daughter. But when the Alliance declares war on their world, Aden finds his plans in disarray and told he won’t make captain. One chance remains–the Dragon. Lost many years prior, the legendary ship’s unique weapon is Hyrath’s only hope. Can Aden find the Dragon, save his people, and prove he’s capable of commanding his own ship?

Dragon of the Stars has scored the highest reviews of Cavanaugh’s books from both reviewers and readers:

“...the storytelling is solid, with plenty of space-based military action...” - Publishers Weekly

"The elements I enjoy in a classic space opera are tightly packed into this standalone intergalactic adventure novel. ...has all the action, mystery, and star-commanding thrills of a fast-paced Star Trek movie. A most satisfying read." - David Powers King, co-author of Woven

“Fueled by testosterone and laced with adrenaline, Dragon of the Stars is infused with character development that makes good space opera.” - Milo James Fowler, author of Captain Bartholomew Quasar and the Space-Time Displacement Conundrum

Local women share their stories about surviving the Joplin tornado

May 5, 2014 - It’s has been over a year and a half since Tamara Hart Heiner went the 45 miles from her home and took a drive in the country with her husband right after an EF 5 tornado blew through Joplin, Missouri on Sunday May 22, 2011. More than 150 people were killed. Hundreds of homes were destroyed. The school district closed for the year because of the devastation and destruction.

She was so awed by what she saw that she decided to write a nonfiction book about the Joplin tornado. She steeped herself in piles of reports and sifted through thousands of pages of technical scientific information on meteorology and tornado safety. She conducted dozens of detailed interviews and was surprised at how readily experts, professors, forecasters and government officials were to share their insights, experience, and knowledge.

But what really struck her the most was the survivors and their stories. “The Joplin tornado shocked the nation with the strength of its devastating force. People on the outside of such devastation don’t know about what it is really like,” she said. “They forget about how long it takes to return to normal, if ever.”

She hopes to change that with the release of her new book, Tornado Warning, a well-researched, factual narrative that recounts the true experiences of seven women and their families as they go through the harrowing events and try to hold their families and community together.

“Writing this book opened my mind to the fragility of life,” she said. “I was truly amazed by the inner strength people demonstrated and the extraordinary things they did to protect themselves and their loved ones. My perception of life has been altered by the lives of the women I interviewed for the book. Many of them had idyllic, peaceful lives, and in a moment their houses, jobs, and families were swept away. What they discovered was the material items they’d held dear were not nearly as important as their loved ones.”

Most of her research was done through interviews. She also worked with the National Weather Service, particularly those on shift during the Joplin tornado. They were very obliging in sending over detailed schematics of the minute-by-minute detail leading up to the tornado.

She captured the tailed experiences of seven women who opened up and reveal what it was really like to go through the tornado and the aftermath. Here is a sampling of some of the personal insights contained in the collection:

“There are some things that you never forget. You never forget the feeling. It will always be there and it's so hard to describe.” —Kayla McMinn

"I could hear the tornado coming. It sounded like very low roaring thunder that just kept getting louder and louder. I could hear glass breaking and then I could feel when it was on top of us." -- Meg Scaggs

"Running through neighborhoods, armed with only a flashlight, cell phone and first aid kit, jumping power lines, downed trees and debris, it felt as if reality was suspended, a horror film was taking place; I was an extra on the set." -- Nellie Mitchell

"I just wish I could wave a wand over Joplin and turn it back to before the tornado." -- Cara Edens

"I could not believe this had really happened. The more we sorted through the rubble, the more I just had to stop and Thank God to be alive!"-- Penny Jason

" We walked past a house that was completely untouched in all of the destruction, and what seemed strange to me was that instead of helping people, or giving out water or something, the people of the house were sitting on the porch in rocking chairs drinking." -- Melinda Borup

"It took probably thirty to forty minutes to get down a six-block area right in middle of everything that happened. People were wandering around like they didn’t know what to say or think or do." -- Piper Divine

Tamara said, “One thing I heard over and over again during the interviews was, ‘We always heard the sirens and ignored them. We never thought it could happen to us.”

“What most inspired me was how people came together to help each other. I was amazed to see the goodness and generosity that emerged in the face of the disaster. I was moved to see how strangers jumped in to help those wounded by the tornado.“

The book tells the dramatic and true stories of a people in a modern American city ravaged by the forces of nature. It also conveys hope and love.

“It is amazing to me that the spark of life can’t be expelled even when faced with major obstacles.”

All the profits of this book are being donated to the relief funds and those who contributed their stories.

Amazon Best Selling Series Concludes with CassaStorm

September 17, 2013 - The final installment in author Alex J. Cavanaugh’s best-selling series is set to take the book world by storm. The first two books, CassaStar and CassaFire, were Amazon Science Fiction Best Sellers in both the US and UK, and CassaStorm is poised to repeat that achievement. The Cassa series boasts ties to classic space opera and has been compared to Ender's Game and Heinlein's early work.

The series’ success is due to its appeal beyond the science fiction fan base due to the author's reliance on a strong, character-drive story. The series continues with protagonist Byron and introduces his ten-year-old son, drawing in those who enjoy MG and YA fiction. Built around a space opera story arc, the latest installment carries themes of family, sacrifice, and the battle against racial discrimination.

Commanding the Cassan base on Tgren, Byron thought he’d put the days of battle behind him. As a galaxy-wide war encroaches upon the desert planet, Byron’s ideal life is threatened and he’s caught between the Tgrens and the Cassans. After enemy ships attack the desert planet, Byron discovers another battle within his own family. The declaration of war between all ten races triggers nightmares in his son, threatening to destroy the boy’s mind. Meanwhile the ancient alien ship is transmitting a code that might signal the end of all life in the galaxy. And the mysterious probe that almost destroyed Tgren twenty years ago could return. As his world begins to crumble, Byron suspects a connection. The storm is about to break, and Byron is caught in the middle…

"CassaStorMis a touching and mesmerizing space opera full of action and emotion with strong characters and a cosmic mystery." - Edi's Book Lighthouse
